About our Counseling Program
Some of the types of counseling offered by Brookland's Elementary Counselors are the following:  ​small group counseling, individual counseling, and guidance lessons. Guidance lessons are taught in each classroom once a month.  The topics covered are:  respect/bullying, safe and drug free school, gun safety, kindness, tolerance, test taking skills, career education, and child abuse prevention.

​Some of the programs offered by the counselors are the following:  
school supply assistance, WatchDogs, monthly birthday celebrations, star students, coat program, backpack program, Thanksgiving meal assistance, assistance for Christmas (Angel Tree), blood drives, fund raisers for American Heart Association and Make-a-Wish​, and a recycling program.

​August:  Meet new students, tours of school, Home School testing of newly enrolled students, 504 plans, ESL plans, Migrant students, Scheduling, Mid-South referrals, APSCN, SWIS and CICO data, individual counseling, stuff the bus/churches helping us with school supplies, find bilingual ESL tutor, WatchDog survey/counselor's survey, begin coat program, and in-service presentations.

​September:​ Guidance topic - Respect and Bully Free Zone, Meet New students, 504 plans, ESL plans, Migrant students, Scheduling, Mid-South referrals, APSCN, SWIS and CICO data, Birthday Celebrations, Star Students, WatchDog program, individual counseling, RTI/PBIS Committee Meetings, family service meetings, Needs Assessments, at 5 weeks time take referrals for group counseling, Tobacco Tour, CAT committee meeting, end coat program, and start recycling program.

​October:​  Guidance topic - Safe and Drug Free School, Red Ribbon Month, American Heart Association, meet new students, Honor Roll and Merit Roll Awards, 504 plans, ESL plans, migrant students, scheduling, Mid-South referrals, APSCN, SWIS and CICO data, birthday celebrations, Star Students, individual counseling, small group counseling, RTI/PBIS Committee Meetings, family service meetings, ADHD consultation/collaboration, and begin Thanksgiving/Angel Tree program.

November and December:  Guidance Topics:  Gun Safety and Kindness, 504 plans, ESL plans, Migrant students, Scheduling, Mid-South referrals, APSCN, SWIS and CICO data, birthday celebrations, Star Students, individual counseling, small group counseling, RTI/PBIS Committee Meetings, family service meetings, Continue ​​thanksgiving and angel tree programs, flu-clinic.

January and February:  Guidance Topic:  Tolerance and Make-A-Wish, begin state testing preparation, Honor Roll and Merit Roll Awards,  504 plans, ESL plans, Migrant students, scheduling, Mid-South referrals, APSCN, SWIS and CICO data,​​ birthday celebrations, star students, individual counseling, ADHD consultation/collaboration,  RTI/PBIS Committee Meetings, family service meetings, Make-a-Wish, spelling bee judge, referrals for new group counseling services and these sessions will end beginning of March.

March and April: Guidance Topic for March is Career Exploration.  April there is no guidance due to state mandated testing.  Honor Roll and Merit Roll Awards, 504 Plans, ESL plans, Migrant students, Scheduling, Mid-South referrals, APSCN, SWIS and CICO data,​​ birthday celebrations, Star Students, individual counseling, RTI/PBIS Committee Meetings, family service meetings, state mandated testing for April, Earth Day presentations, and Earth Day Art Fair projects. 

May:  Guidance Topic:  Child Abuse Prevention Month, ​​ELDA testing, individual counseling, 504 Plans, ESL plans, Migrant students, scheduling, Mid-South referrals, APSCN, SWIS and CICO data, birthday celebrations, Star Students, individual counseling, RTI/PBIS Committee Meetings, family service meetings, May Day preparation,  Perfect Attendance, and Honor assemblies for K-3, school supplies for next year, school tours.
